On Saturday 12 September 2026, the feast of the holy Prince Alexander Nevsky, the cathedral on rue Daru celebrated its patronal feast. The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Metropolitan Jean of Dubna.
The Metropolitan was joined by the auxiliary bishops of the Archdiocese — Bishop Symeon of Domodedovo, Bishop Elisey of Reutov and Bishop Augustine of Taldom — by the cathedral clergy and by clergy who had come to share the feast.
Certificates of appreciation
After the Liturgy Metropolitan Jean presented certificates of appreciation to two parishioners of the cathedral, Petko Grigory and Iurii Melnyk, for their dedication. The feast continued with the traditional procession around the cathedral and a shared meal.
An ordination for Düsseldorf
The next day, Sunday 13 September, Bishop Augustine of Taldom celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the cathedral. During the service he ordained Deacon Carol Lupus (Karol Lupu, as the parish spells his name) to the priesthood for the parish of St Nicholas the Wonderworker in Düsseldorf. Fr Karol had served as a deacon since December 2023.
The cathedral
Saint Alexander Nevsky Cathedral on rue Daru was consecrated in 1861 and has remained the principal church of Russian Paris ever since. Its patronal feast is the Translation of the Relics of St Alexander Nevsky, kept on 30 August in the Church calendar (12 September in the civil calendar).
