The Znamenie choir: centenary of Grechaninov’s Liturgy with organ in Paris

For the centenary of the first Paris performance of Alexander Grechaninov’s Liturgy with organ, the Russian choir Znamenie gave a concert on Sunday, 20 September, at the church of Notre-Dame-du-Travail (59, rue Vercingétorix, Paris 14e).

The work stands out for its rich harmonies and organ accompaniment — a rarity in Orthodox singing, which is usually a cappella. After performances in Paris and Agen, the choir presented the Liturgy for the fourth and last time during the European Heritage Days.
